Bossier Sheriff Announces Scholarship Recipient

5/04/2010

Mark Harrington of Benton High School has been named the recipient of a $500 academic scholarship courtesy of the Bossier Sheriff’s Office. The first alternate was Kayla Nicole Herrell of Parkway High School, the second alternate was Ryan Elledge of Airline High School and the third alternate was Nolan Glenn of Benton High School.

“Choosing a winner and the alternates was hard work for the members of our selection committee,” said Deen. “With so many highly qualified applicants, it was hard to narrow it down to one recipient.”

The money comes to the Bossier Sheriff’s Office from the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Scholarship Program and is made possible by the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Membership Program. Sheriff Deen, who is an affiliate of the program, annually provides a scholarship to a graduating high school student in Bossier Parish.

“For a number of years, it has been our privilege to be affiliated with the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Program,” said Deen. “We think it is an outstanding program, and we think it is an excellent way to help students who are this state’s leaders of tomorrow. It is a way for us to invest in Louisiana’s future.”

The only limitations are that applicants be permanent residents of Louisiana, that the scholarship be used in higher education within the state and that students be enrolled as full-time, undergraduate students.
