Program to Monitor Sex Offenders in Full Swing | Watch Video

A new program to monitor registered sex offenders in Bossier Parish is now in full swing, said Bossier Sheriff Larry Deen.

“We want to do all we can to make sure sex offenders are doing everything they’re supposed to be doing under the law,” said Deen. “This program is our way of monitoring these offenders to see that they are in compliance and to see that they stay in compliance.”

The program was initially implemented gradually, but has now been fully operational for the past 90 days. In it, the names of registered sex offenders who live in the parish are divided equally among Bossier Sheriff’s detectives who check on them periodically to see that they are complying with all state legislated mandates. The detectives knock on the sex offenders’ doors to make sure they are living where they say they are, that they are not living too close to schools or day cares, that they are always properly registered and that they have notified the proper authorities about where they are working.

“We take this matter very seriously,” said Deen. “This is a program that will be in place from now on.”
