Two More Arrested in Connection with Store Raids

6/01/2010

Two more people have been arrested in connection with Wednesday morning’s raids on six stores in Bossier Parish. That brings to 15 the total number arrested so far.

Asif Ayub, 29, of the 1100 block of Boulevard in Shreveport, was taken into custody Thursday and charged with the illegal use of a counterfeit trademark, money laundering, racketeering and unlawful possession of a hallucinogenic plant (salvia). His bond was set at $1,125,000.

Young Hee Kim, 57, of the 3500 block of Champion Lake Boulevard in Shreveport, was taken into custody at about 11:00 a.m. Thursday and charged with the illegal use of a counterfeit trademark, money laundering and racketeering. Her bond was set at $1,125,000.

Ayub and Kim and 13 others were incarcerated following a joint operation involving the Bossier Sheriff’s Office, the Bossier City Police Department and the Louisiana State Police, Troop G. Operatives from those three agencies fanned out across the parish on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., following an aggressive, eight-month investigation. Warrants were served for illegal use of counterfeit trademark, money laundering, racketeering and drug charges.

Investigators say individuals in some of these stores were selling counterfeit, name brand shirts, caps and shoes at well below market value. In other stores, drug paraphernalia was being sold. At one store in particular, salvia, a hallucinogenic plant, was being unlawfully distributed.

The stores where the raids were conducted were: Hip Hop City, 1632 Barksdale Boulevard in Bossier City; Otto’s Citgo, 1995 Airline Drive in Bossier City; Pro Beauty Supply, 825 Benton Road in Bossier City; Jubilee Ride U.S.A., 1300 Barksdale Boulevard in Bossier City; Foodtown, 1918 Benton Road in Bossier City; and Kings Korner, 756 Highway 80 in Haughton.

Investigators say, during the course of the investigation, attempts were made to buy counterfeit materials in every convenience store in the parish, but these six were the only locations where those fake items and drug paraphernalia were being sold.

More arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
