A Benton man was arrested Wednesday evening for aggravated cruelty to animals and simple cruelty to animals, said Bossier Sheriff Larry Deen.
Gregory Lamor Jenkins, 54, of the 100 block of Emerson Drive, was taken into custody after a complaint of animal cruelty was made against him when one of his dogs was found in the middle of the street at the intersection of Highway 162 and Emerson Drive. The woman who issued the complaint told a Bossier Sheriff’s deputy that she gave Jenkins the dog two months ago and knows for sure it belongs to Jenkins.
The complainant found a metal clasp secured to the skin under the dog’s neck and a veterinarian told the deputy it had to have been placed there intentionally. Jenkins denied ownership of the dog.
When deputies arrived at Jenkins’ residence, they saw three other dogs tied to stationary vehicles. Animal control was called to the scene and advised the deputies that one of the three dogs was malnourished and was in need of care. Animal control then took the second dog into custody.
Jenkins was transported to the Bossier Maximum Security Facility and booked. His bond is pending.
