Shreveport Woman Arrested for DWI

6/22/2010

A Shreveport woman was arrested late Monday night for second-offense driving while intoxicated, open container and obstructing traffic, said Bossier Sheriff Larry Deen.

Margaret R. Monk, 46, of the 9400 block of Aspen Circle, was taken into custody after a witness saw her traveling south in the 2000 block of Caplis Sligo Road. The witness said Monk stopped her vehicle in the middle of the roadway, centered on the center lines.

When a Bossier Sheriff’s deputy arrived, Monk had the keys out of the ignition and was asked to step out of her vehicle. Monk refused to exit for about two minutes, and when she did, she was very unsteady on her feet and almost fell to the ground twice. She had red, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath.

Monk refused to submit to any field sobriety tests, or the Intoxylizer 5000, and she could not complete a sentence when asked a question. Deputies saw two open containers of alcohol in her vehicle—a frozen margarita and a frozen daiquiri.

Monk was transported to the Bossier Maximum Security Facility and booked. Her bond was set at $2,400.
