Doyline Man from House Fire Identified

7/12/2010

A Doyline man who perished in a house fire Sunday night in Bossier Parish near the Webster Parish line has been identified as Cedric L. Smith, said Bossier Sheriff Larry Deen.

Bossier Sheriff’s investigators say the 36-year-old man was home alone when the blaze leveled the wood frame structure in the 100 block of Potter Road. Smith lived in the house with his mother who was on her way home from work when the fire started around 8:30 p.m. The man’s mother told Bossier Sheriff’s deputies her son was in very poor health, took a great deal of medication and, as a result, slept a lot.

The South Bossier Fire Department responded quickly to the call after a neighbor reported seeing a fireball shoot into the air, but the house was fully engulfed when the firefighters arrived. It ended up being a total loss. The State Fire Marshal will seek to determine the cause of the blaze and the Bossier Parish Coroner, Dr. John Chandler, will rule on the official cause of death.
