Bossier Parish Coroner Rules Double Suicide in Teenagers' Deaths

7/14/2010

Bossier Parish Coroner, Dr. John Chandler, has ruled in the deaths of two teenagers whose bodies were found inside a pickup truck near the end of West Viking Drive in Bossier City on June 29th.

“All evidence shows this to have been a double suicide,” said Chandler.

Chandler made his decision after considering a number of things, including his observations at the crime scene, the results of his autopsies of the teenagers and findings from a test conducted in Pennsylvania. He also reviewed evidence presented to him by Bossier Sheriff’s investigators.

The bodies of 15-year-old Myranda Michelle Becton and 16-year-old Jack Dylan Kennedy were found by a family member around 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29th. A Bossier Sheriff’s deputy who responded to the incident found the boy in the driver’s seat and the girl in the passenger seat. Chandler said both died of a single gunshot wound to the middle of the chest, and a gun was recovered from the vehicle, as well as suicide notes from both juveniles.

Bossier Sheriff’s detectives say Becton and Kennedy, both Airline High School students, were in a dating relationship and there was some parental resistance to the two seeing one another. Investigators say it appears the two decided to end their lives together rather than be apart. They don’t suspect foul play from an outside source.
