Haughton Man Arrested for Attempted Homicide

7/20/2010

A Haughton man was arrested Sunday on two counts of attempted homicide of a police officer, two counts of aggravated flight, resistance by flight, illegal possession of stolen things, no driver’s license and two counts of aggravated property damage, said Bossier Sheriff Larry Deen.

Jarvis Dontreal Jones, 23, of the 100 block of West Madison, was taken into custody after a Bossier Sheriff’s deputy was notified that a man in a stolen vehicle was traveling east on Interstate 20. The deputy initially saw the man and the vehicle at exit 33, Highway 157 southbound, and activated his emergency lights and sirens. Jones immediately accelerated and passed several vehicles while traveling down the right shoulder of Highway 157.

Jones continued south on Highway 157 at speeds in excess of 80 miles-per-hour, then cut through a parking lot at approximately 50 miles-per-hour, crossed Highway 614, went through the grass and came to rest adjacent to the U.S. Post Office on Highway 614, south of Highway 157.

The deputy tried to block Jones’ vehicle, but Jones intentionally rammed the right rear of the deputy’s vehicle, causing extensive damage. Jones used his vehicle to push the deputy’s vehicle aside, then intentionally rammed a Haughton Police Department vehicle head-on. Jones exited the stolen vehicle and fled on foot for approximately 20-30 yards before being taken into custody.

Jones was transported to the Bossier Maximum Security Facility and booked. His bond is pending.
