Doctor Shopping Conspiracy Leads to 12 Arrests

Undercover agents have arrested 12 people in connection with a doctor shopping conspiracy and are still looking for four more, said Bossier Sheriff Larry Deen. During various undercover buys beginning in August of 2009, detectives gained information about groups of people who were traveling to Houston and visiting various doctors to obtain prescriptions for narcotics. The individuals would visit multiple doctors, one after another, obtaining prescriptions, and then get the prescriptions filled at different pharmacies. After receiving the medicines, they would bring them back to Bossier Parish and sell the pills. There were also instances where main dealers would take multiple people with them to Houston and pay for their office visits. In turn, the dealers would pay them with either money or a portion of the pills. The majority of the narcotics were Lortab (hydrocodone), Soma (carisoprodol), and Xanax (alprazolam). According to Texas pharmacy records, these individuals obtained 36, 860 hydrocodone pills, 8, 110 carisoprodol pills, and 7, 040 alprazolam pills from the Houston area during the time of this investigation. Although this investigation has yielded multiple arrests, the investigation is still ongoing. Below is a list of those arrested, the date of their arrest, and their charges. 1. Derric Brian Rodgers, 28, of the 3200 block of Jana Street in Bossier City. Arrested on October 2, 2009 and additional charges were added on March 2, 2010. He is charged with conspiracy to distribute schedule III hydrocodone 28 counts, conspiracy to distribute schedule IV alprazolam 17 counts, conspiracy to distribute schedule IV carisoprodol 5 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute hydrocodone 28 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute alprazolam 17 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute carisoprodol 5 counts. 2. Amanda Brown Rodgers, 26, of the 4800 block of East Texas Street. Arrested on March 26, 2010. She is charged with conspiracy to distribute schedule III hydrocodone 21 counts, conspiracy to distribute schedule IV alprazolam 7 counts, conspiracy to distribute schedule IV carisoprodol 4 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute hydrocodone, 21 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute alprazolam 7 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute carisoprodol 4 counts. 3. Joshua Lee Vandyke, 27, of the 300 block of Caplis Sligo Road. Arrested on June 7, 2010. Charged with conspiracy to distribute schedule III hydrocodone 9 counts, conspiracy to distribute schedule IV alprazolam 2 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute hydrocodone 9 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute alprazolam 2 counts. 4. Paul Edward Peek, 28, of the 800 block of Mason Road. Arrested on June 5, 2010. Charged with conspiracy to distribute schedule III hydrocodone 5 counts, conspiracy to distribute schedule IV alprazolam 1 count, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute hydrocodone 5 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute alprazolam 1 count. 5. Taffney K. Ming, 37, of the 1700 block of Desoto Street in Shreveport. Arrested on June 3, 2010. Charged with conspiracy to distribute schedule III hydrocodone 7 counts, conspiracy to distribute schedule IV alprazolam 3 counts, conspiracy to distribute carisoprodol 2 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute hydrocodone 7 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute alprazolam 3 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute carisoprodol 2 counts. 6. Jason Richard Nichols, 26, of the 2500 block of Barbara Street. Arrested on June 2, 2010. Charged with conspiracy to distribute schedule III hydrocodone 4 counts and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute hydrocodone 4 counts. 7. Jason Raphael Poole, 28, of the 3200 block of Sarah Street. Arrested on May 11, 2010. Charged with conspiracy to distribute schedule III hydrocodone 6 counts and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute hydrocodone 6 counts. 8. Timothy Joel Kalpinski, 47, of the 500 block of Bob White Lane in Benton. Arrested on May 8, 2010. Charged with conspiracy to distribute schedule III hydrocodone 8 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute schedule III hydrocodone 8 counts, conspiracy to distribute schedule IV carisoprodol 4 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute carisoprodol 4 counts, conspiracy to distribute schedule IV alprazolam 3 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute alprazolam 3 counts. 9. Tippi Lynn Husser, 45, of the 100 block of North Sibley in Benton. Arrested on May 4, 2010. Charged with conspiracy to distribute schedule III hydrocodone 7 counts, conspiracy to distribute schedule IV alprazolam 5 counts, conspiracy to distribute carisoprodol 2 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute hydrocodone 7 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute alprazolam 5 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute carisoprodol 2 counts. 10. Geneva Lynn Mclendon, 28, of the 100 block of Roach in Doyline. Arrested on May 5, 2010 and June 23, 2010. Charged with conspiracy to distribute schedule III hydrocodone 10 counts, conspiracy to distribute schedule IV alprazolam 6 counts, conspiracy to distribute carisoprodol 5 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute hydrocodone 10 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute alprazolam 6 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute carisoprodol 5 counts. 11. Darren Wayne Tewell, 29, of the 1700 block of Desoto Street in Shreveport. Arrested on April 21, 2010. Additional charges added on May 6, 2010. Charge with conspiracy to distribute schedule III hydrocodone 73 counts, conspiracy to distribute schedule IV alprazolam 41 counts, conspiracy to distribute carisoprodol 20 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute hydrocodone 73 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute alprazolam 41 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute carisoprodol 20 counts, distribution of schedule IV carisoprodol 1 count and distribution of schedule III hydrocodone 1 count. 12. Belinda Hammock Leger, 51, of the 400 block of Cross Creek Drive in Bossier City. Arrested on June 7, 2010. Charged with conspiracy to distribute schedule III hydrocodone 74 counts, conspiracy to distribute schedule IV alprazolam 67 counts, conspiracy to distribute carisoprodol 19 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute hydrocodone 74 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute alprazolam 67 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute carisoprodol 19 counts. Each of these people could face additional charges in Texas. The following individuals have outstanding warrants in relation to this case. 1. Karen Denis Boykin, 38, of Oak Thicket in Haughton. Wanted for conspiracy to distribute schedule III hydrocodone 6 counts, conspiracy to distribute carisoprodol 2 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute hydrocodone 2 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute carisoprodol 2 counts. 2. Lateefah S. Watson, a.k.a. Queen Lateefah, 32, of the 2300 block of Missouri Avenue in Shreveport. Wanted for conspiracy to distribute schedule III hydrocodone 26 counts, conspiracy to distribute schedule IV alprazolam 6 counts, conspiracy to distribute carisoprodol 1 count, conspiracy to distribute schedule IV diazepam 1 count, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute hydrocodone 26 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute alprazolam 6 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute carisoprodol 1 count, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute diazepam 1 count. 3. Nathaniel Floyd Goodson, 30, of the 5700 block of Texas Street in Bossier City. Wanted for conspiracy to distribute schedule III hydrocodone 2 counts, conspiracy to distribute schedule IV carisoprodol 1 count, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute hydrocodone 2 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute carisoprodol 1 count. 4. Kevin Dean Combs, 43, of the 1300 block of Shamrock in Bossier City. Wanted for conspiracy to distribute schedule III hydrocodone 16 counts, conspiracy to distribute schedule IV alprazolam 10 counts, conspiracy to distribute schedule IV carisoprodol 9 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute hydrocodone 16 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute alprazolam 10 counts, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute carisoprodol 9 counts. |
